Why does the hood wicker matter?

The ZR1’s flow-through hood is designed to pull air across the front heat exchangers, and the wicker at the trailing edge of the extractor is what makes that work: it creates a low-pressure pocket behind it that draws hot air up and out through the hood. That is why every ZR1 ships with one, and why the Carbon Fiber Aero Package makes it taller. The RSC wicker mounts in that same factory position at the trailing edge of the extractor. By extending aft, the RSC wicker creates the same low-pressure void without distracting from the sleek lines of the ZR1 hood.

Construction & Materials

Manufactured using pre-impregnated (prepreg) visible carbon fiber saturated with aerospace-grade epoxy resin, then autoclave-cured under precise pressure and temperature for maximum strength-to-weight ratio. This is the same manufacturing process used on factory Corvette carbon fiber components and by every major exotic marque, and it produces that high-end supercar fit and finish discerning owners demand. The wicker utilizes a special high-temperature resin system that resists discoloration and warping not found on lower-cost options — an important detail for a part that lives directly above the ZR1’s heat extractor — and is finished with a premium UV-inhibiting clear coat that resists hazing and yellowing under harsh sunlight. The flat, consistent weave pattern achieved through autoclave curing can’t be matched by less expensive wet-laid products.

A note on “visible carbon”: the term refers to the weave being exposed — it is not a type of carbon fiber. Many products advertised as visible carbon fiber are only a top layer of carbon over fiberglass or cheaper material. The RSC ZR1 Front Hood Wicker is constructed entirely of prepreg carbon fiber.

Design & Engineering

The ZR1 Front Hood Wicker is an exclusive RSC design. Where the factory pieces are straightforward functional parts — a short blade or a tall one — the RSC wicker was shaped as a design element that complements the ZR1’s hood surfacing rather than interrupting it. The profile is original and unique, with edges and transitions developed to match the rest of the car. The weave is split down the centerline for perfect symmetry and matches the finish of the GM factory carbon.
